Alabama Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Gadsden, Alabama
Population: 42,600
Located in Etowah County
Welcome to Gadsden, Alabama, a city offering its residents and those considering a move to another location a completely different approach to small city living. Our Governmental, Business and Community Leaders have concentrated on maintaining recreational programs and facilities, genuine concern for others, and a respect for the traditional values that have made our country so great for so long. In addition, city leaders have added a dimension not often seen in communities our size...attention to culture and the fine arts.
Just recently, Mayor Steve Means was able to accept one of only two awards given at the Annual Mayor's Conference in Seattle, as "Most Livable City in America." This covered cities up to 100,000 in population. The basis of this award was a commitment by the Mayor and other local leaders in 1990 to develop the facilities, programs and opportunities for all citizens to enjoy and participate in the arts here in Gadsden.
A multi-million dollar Cultural Arts Center was built and opened in 1991 with private and governmental funding. The Center, fully staffed, offers programs from pre-school through senior citizens. One of the highest regarded programs is the Etowah Youth Symphony that has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The Gadsden Museum of Art is open and is now a part of the Cultural Arts district in the city's downtown area.
