Gulf Shores is located along the Gulf of Mexico in rapidly growing Baldwin County, Alabama. Traditionally regarded as a tourist resort community, Gulf Shores has evolved into a small town that is home to an estimated resident population in excess of 5,000. The natural amenities of Gulf Shores have made it particularly attractive to retirees from throughout the United States and as a result, the City's population tends to fluctuate as "snowbirds" spend winter months in the community. The numerous tourists that balloon the population during the busy summer months further fluctuate the population. Ultimately, Gulf Shores has two sides - and important resident community and a tourist community that is the lifeblood of the local economy.

In the Gulf Coast Area, we have a permanent population consisting of professionals, families, retirees and service industry employees. We also have a seasonal population primarily consisting of "snowbirds," student employees and tourists.

Education is a fundamental block in building a bright future. The Gulf Coast Area opened a brand new high school during 1999 in Gulf Shores. The area has two elementary schools and a middle school. All public schools are a part of the Baldwin County School System. If you are interested in private education, you also have the option of Bayside Academy, which includes age 3 - Grade 4.
