Known for its "Southern Hospitality", Hartselle is quickly becoming one of the more popular towns in North Alabama in which to live. We are located ten miles south of Decatur, twenty-five miles west of Huntsville, and seventy miles north of Birmingham. Many industries are located in Hartselle and the county area. Hartselle's city school system is ranked third in the state, with one high school, one middle school and three elementary schools. Plans for the construction of a second high school are presently being considered. Secondary education facilities are located within a short driving distance.
The city of Hartselle maintains a high quality of life for its citizens, evidenced by a low crime rate, community pride in our schools, recreational facilities, sports and music programs and churches. There is a 150 bed hospital with 25 senior care beds, twenty-six specializing physicians and special services for senior adults. The hospital is equipped with the only cardiac rehab unit in the county, top ranked nurses in the state and an out-patient surgery facility. The city of Hartselle also has many antiques stores and specialty shops. Hartselle is located within a short driving distance to many lake resorts, golf courses and other recreational facilities. Recreation/Community Events
The Depot Days Festival, held the last Saturday of September each year, celebrates the towns railroad heritage. There's a 5K and Fun Run, Arts and Crafts Show, Car Show, Tractor Show, Children's Games/Rides, Storytelling, Musical Entertainment, Food and plenty of family fun.
Holidays in Hartselle are special, too. October brings the Crestline Carnival; and in November, open houses hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and merchants begin the "Hartselle for the Holidays" activities, plus the community wide Thanksgiving Service. In December, Santa makes his official appearance during the Christmas Parade and residents graciously open their doors for the Beautification Association "Tour of Homes."
Throughout the year, there are banquets, neighborhood block parties, school festivals, school choral and band concerts, as well as lots of regularly scheduled activities at the Civic Center.
Sparkman Park, located behind the Civic Center, is an 80-acre recreation oasis in the midst of the city. The Civic Center and Park features full-size basketball courts, racquetball court, two lighted tennis courts, lighted fields, walking trail, two lighted soccer fields, an Olympic size swimming pool with slide and concession stand, and twenty acres of wooded area with picnic pavilions, tables and playground areas. Four covered pavilions are available in the Park to rent. Pavilion rental ranges from $15 to $25 per day with a five dollar refundable key deposit. Call the Civic Center to make reservations.
There are organized community youth baseball, softball, football, basketball and soccer leagues, as well as adult softball leagues.
Our immediate area also holds a national forest, a national wildlife refuge, fishing challenges of all sorts and boating and water recreation activities of any description.
