Strawberry, Arizona
Population: 4,000
Located in Gila County
Welcome to Pine and Strawberry. These two pioneer sister towns under the Rim have a combined population of approximately 2,200. The two mountain villages, located 15 miles north of Payson on State Route 87, are nestled quietly at 5,500 and 6,000 feet under the magnificent Mogollon Rim. High enough to be cool in the summer, yet low enough to enjoy mild winters. Strawberry is named for the wild strawberries abound, and Pine for being in the largest stand of Ponderosa pine trees in the world. Being only three miles apart, they share a community center, school, post office, Chamber of Commerce, fire department, and medical center. Founded back in the 1870's, they're becoming beautiful bedroom communities. Their early Morman heritage is still evident in the existing pioneer structures, including the 1885 school house that is visited daily as well as the Tonto Natural Bridge. A one billion, seven hundred million year old, one hundred and eighty three foot high travertine geological marvel spanning Pine Creek. Homes and home sites with spectacular views are available in this area.
