Not all the fun is out of doors because the arts in south Arkansas are thriving. From a full symphony to an intimate group of chamber players, area residents will have no trouble finding something to do.

The South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, now in its 40th season, was founded in 1956 as the El Dorado Symphony and Choral Society. The symphony has grown into an ensemble that serves the entire south Arkansas region with a budget of more than $150,000 and producing more than 55 concerts per season. Each year, the symphony provides regular concerts, featuring special guest artists, as well as concerts for area school children. Members of the orchestra, directed by Kermit Poling, come from all around south Arkansas and north Louisiana. The South Arkansas Friends of Chamber Music was established in 1996. The group is composed of a small orchestra and chorus, offering an intimate and relaxed interpretation of Romantic and Baroque music for area residents.

From amateur painters to professional dancers, the South Arkansas Arts Center provides arts and entertainment for Union County and south Arkansas residents. For 15 years, the Monday Artists, a group of local amateur painters, have met at SAAC for fellowship and a day of painting. In addition to the regular meeting of the Monday Artists, SAAC provides regular instruction in ballet, guitar and bass lessons, children art and drama classes, and regularly presents special exhibits in one of three galleries. In addition to exhibits and classes, SAAC also hosts various performances from local al and national performing groups. SAAC also presents theater productions on a regular basis including a summer musical, fall and spring plays and children's theater plays.
