Melbourne was formerly named Mill Creek, and became the County Seat on May 10, 1875 with a population of 300. The name was changed from Mill Creek to Melbourne on February 16, 1876. Melbourne is 131 miles north of Little Rock, the State Capitol.

Melbourne is the home for a Boeing Aircraft Plant, Century Flooring as well as Ozarka College. We're proud of our town and we've got room to grow with the right industry.

Melbourne makes a great place to begin your fun in the Ozarks. If water is your thing Melbourne is only a short drive from the world famous White River, home of record breaking trout and great river fun! A few short miles north west you will find another great trout stream, the North Fork River. And just past it is Lake Norfork, home of all kind of water sports.
