Mena is a vacation and retirement paradise. Mena is located at the base of Rich Mountain in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, and is surrounded by the Ouachita National Forest. The many lakes and streams in the Ouachita National Forest provide water sports such as swimming, sailing, skiing, canoeing, rafting, kayaking, and great fishing. The Ouachita National Forest has over 600 miles of recreation trails for Hiking, Mountain Biking, ATV's, ORV's and Equestrians. Rock Climbing is also available in the Ouachita Mountains as well as Hang Gliding and Paragliding.
Mena is also only eleven miles from the Queen Wilhelmena State Park on top of Rich Mountain, Mena is a great location for retirement, for the outdoors enthusiast, or just someone looking for a quiet, scenic place to live.
There are three main lakes in this district, DeQueen Lake, Dierks Lake and Gillham Lake. These are all within a short distance of Mena for great fishing, camping, boating, water sports and swimming fun.
This is an extremely rural area, with tourism at its economic base, so many homes here are bought as vacation rentals, or as second homes. With prices ranging from $80,000 for a spacious cabin to several hundred thousand for a lake home, there is certainly something for everyone.
