We are the only Paragould in the world! Paragould is strategically located in northeast Arkansas approximately 90 miles northwest of Memphis, and 214 miles south of St. Louis. The community is located at the intersections of US Highway 412 and US Highway 49. When a name was sought for the newly created town at the junction of the two railroads, a group of citizens promoting the new town wished to supplant the name of Bula, the nearest point of mail delivery. Finally combining syllables from the names of the two railroad presidents - joining together the two protagonists, evolved the name. The syllable "Para" for Paramore and "Gould" for Mr. Gould was taken from each name, thus conceiving the name Paragould, - The One and Only - a truly original name for an unusual town. In addition to its strategic location, Paragould offers a professional business environment and is a community that takes great pride in its educational institutions.
