South Shore Relocation

About South Shore

Jackson Park Highlands, South Shore

With miles of practically uninterrupted coastline, here in Chicago’s South Shore you'll find beautiful homes, golf courses, lakefront and culture. Much of this area has been restored in the past few years, as more affluent residents have relocated to this area.

South Shore Housing

South Shore's historic district, Jackson Park Highlands, is abundant with structural history and 19th-Century architecture. There are a variety of housing styles and prices including American Four-Square, Colonial Revival, Renaissance Revival and luxury condos, many sitting on larger lots. The average home prices are about $200,000 and are quickly rising as this is becoming a growing area.

South Shore Culture

A large and close-knit neighborhood, South Shore is largely African-American and Hispanic. Many of the residents take great pride in their homes and community. There is great support for the arts and here you'll find the Creative Arts Foundation, New Regal Theater and the theater at the South Shore Cultural Center.

South Shore Recreation

There is plenty to do in South Shore. Throughout the summer there are jazz festivals, the annual “Real Men Cook” barbecue event, architectural tours and the Juneteenth Parade. One of the main attractions is the Mediterranean-style, South Shore Cultural Center, once a country club, it is now a public facility complete with a golf course, tennis courts and a variety of programs including dance, music and yoga.
