Camarillo, California

Population: 60,000

Located in Ventura County

The City of Camarillo, a community of 60,000 situated in a fertile agricultural plain near the coast of Southern California, blends rural and urban features into one unique and appealing lifestyle.

Incorporated in 1964, Camarillo has evolved into a thriving city that today is very much like its founders envisioned, dedicated to preserving its Spanish land grant heritage without sacrificing the economic growth that is vital to the city's continued existence. This balanced approach to development and preservation is carefully maintained by the city's officials, who work closely with local business, residents and community leaders to ensure that the qualities which make Camarillo so attractive today are not overlooked in the competition for new development tomorrow.

With 14 schools for grades K-8 (including two intermediate schools), Pleasant Valley School District (PVSD) has the largest enrollment. PVSD also operates three alternative schools for those who desire a non-traditional or more structured educational environment for their children. Four of PVSD's schools have received state or national recognition for academic excellence. Oxnard Union High School District has jurisdiction over the two local high schools, Adolfo Camarillo and Rio Mesa. Seventeen private schools are also located in the greater Camarillo area. Camarillo high school students' Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores have ranked consistently among the highest in Ventura County.

The Camarillo Area Transit (CAT) system offers a "fixed-route" bus service that operates on a regular schedule and a "Dial-a-Ride" service that is available for use by the general public on a reservation basis. The dial-a-ride service picks up passengers at their door and delivers them to their desired destination.

Community sponsored events include Friday ballroom dances, country western dances, Hensnon’s music festival, the Camarillo community band summer concert series, fall arts & crafts fair, family summer programs, senior citizen activities and more.
