Chico, California
Located 90 miles north of Sacramento, the City of Chico lies within the northern end of the lush Sacramento Valley, and is Butte County's largest city. Chico, and much of Butte County, has some of the richest agricultural land in the world. Chico and the surrounding area also contain an abundance of business and recreational opportunities. Bidwell Park, for example, is the third largest municipally owned park in the United States (3,670 acres). Our community is conveniently located to Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay area and the Lake Tahoe region, and retains the charm of a small town while offering excellent medical services, school systems, and multi-cultural attractions.
The City of Chico was founded in 1860 by General John Bidwell, and became incorporated in 1872 with a population of approximately 1000 persons in an area of 6.6 square miles. By 2001, the City of Chico had grown to include a population of 64,581 persons in an area of 22 square miles.
Chico is located in California's Sacramento Valley, a large and agriculturally rich basin that runs through the northern center of the state between Sacramento and Redding, Chico can be found in Butte County, east of Interstate 5, on Highway 99.
