Boasting the finest navel oranges in the world, Exeter, California, has a rich agricultural heritage built on a hundred years of American tradition. Exeter is known for growing the sweetest oranges in the world and as the "Citrus Capital of the World". The charming town of Exeter invites you to a celebration of our automotive history as we race through the foothills in an exhibition of the glory days of the automobile. Our town celebrates the fall harvest season with a parade down our main street, a party in the park with an "Art Affair", arts & crafts, entertainment games, food and a car show for pre-war sports and race cars. As a special attraction, the cars participate in a race exhibition through the foothills for a two-hour tour back in time. The town of Exeter is situated at the base of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The area has scenic beauty, a thriving business community, and a population who take great pride in the town?s heritage, quality housing, good schools, and a very low incidence of crime Exeter is located on State Highway 65, 2 miles south of Highway 198 and 15 miles east of Highway 99. Exeter is within a 3 to 4 hour drive of both Los Angeles and San Francisco, and 30 minutes from the entrance to Sequoia National Park. Situated in the middle of California?s agricultural heartland the great San Joaquin Valley, one of the world?s most fertile valleys, Exeter is known for the sweetest oranges in the world. Exeter is also known for it?s abundant supply of citrus, deciduous fruits, nuts and table grapes. National recognition was given to Exeter in 2000 as ?One of America?s Prettiest Painted Places?. Professional artists depicting the history and culture of the area have painted huge murals on exterior walls throughout the downtown area. There are currently 21 murals in this outdoor art gallery, and more are planned. Group tours can be arranged. Exeter?s public schools are dedicated to academic excellence and quality in education. The public school system consists of: Exeter Union High School (9-19), Wilson Middle School (6-8), Rocky Hill Elementary (3-5), Lincoln Elementary (K-2) and Kaweah High School (a continuation high school). The 1999-2000 enrollment was: grades K-8, 1,936 and grades 9-12, 1101 students. Exeter?s population is about 9504 and our city leaders are determined to retain our small town charm while making room for conservative growth. Exeter has a variety of antique stores, specialty shops, services, restaurants and lodging. Exeter has a long tradition of annual events and festivals. Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks are a vast region of snowcapped Sierra Nevada peaks dotted with lakes and covered with pine, cedar and redwood forests.
