"Fullerton 2000 and Beyond," a downtown revitalization program sponsored by the City of Fullerton and the Fullerton Redevelopment Agency has been named the recipient of the coveted "Helen Putnam Award" in economic and community development from the League of California Cities.

"Fullerton 2000 and Beyond" refers to the "renaissance" of historic Downtown Fullerton, and is the result of a decade of community effort, with additional significant City improvements that are under way or planned for the immediate future.

Evidence of this revitalization can be seen in the substantial increase in people using the downtown, attracted by the growing number of restaurants, unique shops and entertainment outlets. In the last year alone, more than 25 businesses, including 10 restaurants, have opened in the downtown.

"But the downtown is more than just another place to shop, dine and be entertained," said Gary Chalupsky, redevelopment director for the City of Fullerton.

"It is still the full service center of the city, serving as home to many cultural facilities, such as the award-winning Fullerton Museum Center, as well as government, religious, educational, financial, transportation, nonprofit organizations, and personal service businesses." Come visit this wonderful community and be a part of its expanding future.
