Kensington is a city with numerous positive attributes - great location, pleasant climate, stable residential neighborhoods, good transit and highway access, numerous parks and recreational facilities, and involved residents. Its name was given to the area in 1911. It has over 5,000 residents who appreciate the magnificent Bay views most of them have from their windows. Kensington is also quiet and lovely little community nestled in the hills north of Berkeley and south of El Cerrito. It has an excellent elementary school system, many private schools to choose from as well.
Housing tends to be on the expensive side, but that is to expected seeing that most of the city overlooks the Bay. A typical 3-bedroom, 2 bath home will sell for $650,000 and up. Condos and townhouses are a little less expensive, but properties are snapped up fast in this very desirable neighborhood.

Another place Kensington residents appreciate and love to visit is the Blake Gardens. This beautiful 10-acre garden is open to the public on weekdays only. These gardens feature flowers, shrubs and trees in a tranquil setting.
Through the years and population growth, Kensington has retained a quiet charm, which its residents find appealing.
