Rodeo is a two-neighborhood town. Old town, located west of the freeway, faded in the fifties when the freeway by passed it. A marina lends some charm to the old town. Viewpoint Subdivision, built in the 1970’s on a hillside with nice views, is located east of the freeway.

Union Oil refinery has been in Rodeo since 1903. Rodeo is unincorporated and governed from Martinez by a board of Supervisors and patrolled by sheriff’s deputies. Civic groups exercise a fair amount of government control.

John Swett School District serves Crockett and Rodeo. The one high school, John Swett, is in Crockett. A Catholic elementary school is located in downtown Rodeo. These are small, intimate towns, and so are the schools. Scores generally come well above the 50th percentiles.

The commute is better than most and a Park ‘n’ Ride lot is located near the freeway.
