Location: The picturesque greater Walnut Valley is located between the steep San Jose Hills mountain range (at an elevation of 1,375 feet) to the north, and the gentle Puente Hills to the south. Walnut is located between the San Bernardino (10 miles), Orange (57 miles), and Pomona (60 miles) Interstates with easy accessibility to four counties. Housing: Quality housing consists of master-planned single-family homes ranging in size from 1,800 to 11,200 square feet. House prices are fairly reasonable, selling for about $200 per square foot. This is an acceptable range for the California region. Education: The City hosts a top rated state school system; it is actually part of two school districts and has three high schools. The students have scored higher than the national average in their combined Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT), and it has been a recipient for many years of the US Department of Education's prestigious national Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Award. Walnut is also home to the renowned Mt. San Antonio College, home of the annual Mt. SAC Relays. Recreation: Take a stroll through the Mt. San Antonio College Wildlife Sanctuary, a 10-acre protected and cultivated preserve for the trees, shrubs and flowers which once grew in abundance here, and for the birds and other animals who use it as a migratory refuge and breeding ground. The City of Walnut Parks system includes nine parks with 70.14 total acres of maintained facilities. The convenient location of the parks allows residents to have a recreational area near their neighborhood to enjoy a picnic, celebrate a birthday party or just "kick it " with family or friends. The City of Walnut provides reservations for planned activities provided reservations are made at least one week in advance of the intended use date. The new Walnut Teen Center is a place for teens to come and have a good time and participate in different activities. Some of the activities available for the teens include pool, air hockey, dancing, board games, homework, reading, computers, network gaming, Internet, and just having fun. The Walnut Teen Center is funded by the City of Walnut and is free for all teens between the ages of 13-18. The City of Walnut provides a pleasant blend of living in a semi-rural country, a hometown atmosphere, urban conveniences, and close proximity to metropolitan areas, deserts, and beaches.
