Erie is a growing community about 20 miles north of Metro Denver and 15 miles from Boulder. Erie is located within minutes of Lafayette, Louisville, and Longmont, as well. Erie, Colorado was founded, settled, and incorporated several years before Colorado became a state. Incorporated in 1874, Erie was one of the earliest communities settled in the area. As with the Carbon Valley communities, Erie was strongly tied to the mining industry. The climate is dry and generally mild with warm summers, mild winters, unlike other parts of Colorado. Sun plays a big part in the beauty of the area, with over 340 days of sunshine a year. Erie is located within an hour of several ski resorts, and the Rocky Mountain National Park is less than an hour away. Numerous golf courses are also located within 15 miles of Erie. And Erie has its own public golf course that opened in 2002. Numerous cultural and sporting events are located in Denver, just 30 minutes from Erie. Sports fans don't have far to go to cheer for their favorite professional teams, and a lazy afternoon can be whiled away watching your favorite baseball team play. Recreational opportunities are almost endless. Erie is within an hour's distance of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Similar to its early boom and bust cycles, the Town's 125th anniversary was marked by another period of growth.
