Longmont is a vibrant community with a population of 86,636 and located in a spectacular setting at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, offering 310 days of sunshine and some of the best views of the mountains of any Front Range community. The city is named after Long's Peak, which is prevalent on the western horizon at 14,255 feet. The town is one of the fastest growing in America, with plentiful opportunities for outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, dining and shopping.

With over 1,500 acres of Open Space and Parks, Longmont offers the perfect setting for outdoor enthusiasts. Located in close proximity of the mountains, residents can take advantage of the wide range of outdoor activities including biking, hiking, kayaking, rafting, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, boating and camping.

The economy of the area has remained consistently strong and growing with increased focus on the vital high tech industry. Since 1965 when IBM moved into the area, the city has increasingly attracted other high tech companies such as Storage Tek, Seagate and Amgen to name a few. The Software & Information Association recently confirmed that the Boulder/Longmont area has the highest concentration of software-related jobs in the nation. Even with this boom in technology business, the agricultural roots that define the area are still robust and prospering.

Families living in Longmont will be impressed with all that St. Vrain Valley School District has to offer.  The district consists of 22 Elementary Schools, 9 Middle Schools and 6 High Schools.  Construction continues as more schools are slated to open over the next few years. 

Lovers of music, art and theater have a wide array of choices either within the City of Longmont or a short drive to Denver. Longmont offers fabulous events put on by The Longmont Symphony Orchestra, The Longmont Theater Company, The Longmont Museum and the Vance Brand Civic Auditorium. Only 35 miles into Denver metro area or 15 miles to Boulder, residents can partake in numerous attractions such as the Performing Arts Centers, Museums, Nightclubs, Concerts and Galleries. Longmont, Colorado is in the northeastern corner of Boulder County, 37 miles north of Denver, and overlooks the valley of the St. Vrain River. It is approximately 10 miles east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, with an elevation of 4,979 feet. Nearby is Roosevelt National Forest with its many recreation areas, while Rocky Mountain Park, and the spectacular Trail Ridge Road, is but 30 miles to the northwest.

A Brief History of Longmont
Longmont was founded in 1871 by members of the "Chicago Colorado Colony" who settled in the St. Vrain Valley. An expedition headed by Major Stephen H. Long explored the valley in 1820. Longmont's name is a combination of "Long" from Long's Peak and "mont" from the French word for mountain.
