Silverthorne was supposed to be temporary housing for construction workers when Lake Dillon Dam and the Eisenhower Tunnel were being built in the 1960’s. Now it has grown into one of Summit County’s largest towns. A commercial center with 70 Silverthorne Factory Stores, the Summit Place Shopping Center and the soon to be built River Walk Center along the Blue River. It is not unusual to see men fly fishing in the Blue River under Interstate 70 while their wives are shopping at the Factory Stores.

Silverthorne is the home of several friendly neighborhoods, Wildernest just west of town has some of the best housing values in Summit County. The Reven at Three Peaks Golf Course which was designed by Tom Lehman is another recreational draw for Silverthorne. The Silverthorne Recreation Center boasts four indoor pools, along with basketball, indoor track, and weight machines. Colorado Mountain College and the Summit County Library both have a branch in Silverthorne. Offices for the Arapahoe National Forest is in the heart of town, a great spot to get information on Blue River fishing and rafting.
