Colorado Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Superior, Colorado
Population: 9,011
Located in Boulder County
An army of homes marched across the rolling ranch land of this suburb throughout the 1990's - increasing the town's population by more than 2,500 percent and making it the nation's fourth fastest-growing town throughout the last decade.
The growth spawned from a deal struck in the mid-1980s between Richmond Homes and the town's then-250 residents, who were running low on water. Builders promised a water treatment plant, and the town gave them permission to construct the Rock Creek subdivision.
Today more than 9,000 residents call Superior home. It's a tiny town that took root on the south side of the Boulder-Denver Turnpike at McCaslin Boulevard, and as many as 12,000 people are expected to live there by 2003.
Housing: Most of the houses were built in the 1990's and tend to be larger single-family homes. Median cost to buy a single-family house is currently $340,724; although there are homes available in the $150,000 range.
Education: Superior and Boulder share the same school system and offer education from pre-K all the way up to university. Colorado's school systems have been nationally recognized for its excellent academic reports.
Future development plans of the Town include commercial development, retail development, multi-family residential units, single-family homes and a second school Eldorado K-8 is currently under construction. The Town is approximately seven square miles in area has 170 acres of park and open space and 6.7 miles of trails.
As Superior has deliberately taken steps to increase its population, it has also taken steps to ensure that it looks after the booming population. Superior is a modern town but with roots deep in the old west history, and so it has not lost its old-town appeal.
