Settled in 1685 and named after a town in Essex, England, Danbury served as a military supply depot during the Revolutionary War. Later on, this historically rich town became known for its prospering hat industry, much of which is now being displayed in the Danbury Museum and Historical Society. Unlike any other town, Danbury has a magnificent mix of woodsy, peaceful, small town life and a quickly booming business and industry center, with large corporations and small businesses. The city has eleven elementary schools, two junior high schools, one high school, parochial, alternative, and vocational schools, as well as several private schools to choice from. New England's largest shopping center, the Danbury Fair Mall, offers a variety of shopping and food choices, as well as a grand carousel, and has proven to be on of the top retail centers of Fairfield County. Nearby, the Danbury Fair is held annually, featuring an array of exciting rides and games, which attract families and adolescents.

A stroll through Danbury's city center will bring you to the public library, filled with an assortment of books, magazines and even offers regular story sessions for kids. If you are looking for a day of golf, then the Danbury Golf Club is your spot, where acres of freshly-cut grass and golf carts will prove to make a fun day of sport. Probably one of the most impressive attractions that Danbury offers is the largest man-made body of water in Connecticut, called Candlewood Lake. With its eighty miles of shoreline, with swimming and boating areas, golf courses, hiking trails, tennis courts and playing fields, this lake is a popular place during the summer season. With its close proximity to the capital of Connecticut- Hartford, being under an hour drive from New York City, and fairly close to Boston, this town enables its residents to take advantage of what these cities have to offer, as well as still keeping its New England feel.
