Allow me to proudly introduce...East Lyme, Connecticut! East Lyme is one of those pretty towns along Long Island Sound where there are a wide range of activities and events throughout the year. East Lyme is both a pleasant community to live in and a fine place to visit. It offers picturesque vistas of Long Island Sound and Niantic Bay at the Niantic Bay Bridge and MagoPoint. There are a multitude activities to choose from including fine dining, historic places to visit, and a wide range of water related recreations! Close by, along the shore is Rocky Neck State Park. In the shape of a crescent stretching for about a mile, the park offers several activities, including camping, hiking, picnicking, fishing, scuba diving, a concessions area, boardwalk, and bath houses. Whether, hiking, camping, historic sightseeing, or relaxing on the beach, East Lyme offers a palette of opportunity! Niantic, Connecticut Allow me to proudly introduce...Niantic, Connecticut! Niantic is the shoreline area of the Town of East Lyme. Prior to the arrival of settlers, the Nehantic Indians fished and hunted along the shoreline, and later lived amicably among the newcomers, who gave the district its name of Niantic, a variant of the tribal name. The Thomas Lee House (1660) and the Smith Harris House (1840) are both fine examples of the architecture of their time. A plaque at Bride Brook tells of a romantic marriage there in 1646 and marks the boundary between what was then Saybrook and New London. While Niantic hugs the "Sound" it offers all that the East Lyme area encompasses; 34.8 miles of beaches, ponds, steams, woodland and fields. It is a noted summer resort and the home of the famous Niantic scallop, a popular seafood. Niantic is an area steeped in history and local flavor. What a great place to call home! |
