The town of Granby is located in Hartford County, North Central Connecticut on the Massachusetts border. It was settled in about 1664 as a northeast district of Simsbury. In 1736 the Salmon Brook society was set off as an independent parish in Simsbury, and this parish evolved into the present-day Granby. The town was incorporated from Simsbury in 1786. The town has been primarily agricultural throughout its history. Today the town retains much of its rural character.
