Located in Middlesex County
Middlefield is a rural community of 4,000 centrally located and bordered by Middletown, Meriden, and Durham. Incorporated in 1866, Middlefield covers 13.3 square miles. While maintaining its "small-town" feel, Middlefield is within easy commuting distance of larger cities, such as Hartford, New Britain, Middletown, and New Haven. The town offers many varied activities, including skiing, snow boarding, tubing, and ice skating in the winter; and swimming, hiking, and bike riding in the summer. Other summer activities include golfing on one of the three local golf courses; or picking fruit and vegetables at the local orchard. Middlefield, along with Durham, form Regional School District 13, which offers a traditional as well as an integrated day program of education for students in the two communities. Middlefield has worked hard to maintain its small-town atmosphere by protecting its many open spaces, while still keeping and attracting small businesses, which are major contributors to the stability of the town. Country-living, easy commuting, and varied activities all combine to make Middlefield an excellent town to either live in or visit.
