New Fairfield, Connecticut

Population: 13,953
Located in Fairfield County

Known for its excellent schools, reasonable taxes, variety of recreational facilities, and great commuting routes to Westchester and lower Fairfield County, as well as a little more than an hour drive to New York City, New Fairfield is a place of natural beauty during all seasons. It's located on the shoreline of Candlewood Lake, a massive and striking place lined with hiking trails, water sports, and swimming. This town is rich with history, founded way back in 1728 by pioneers from the Connecticut coastal town of Fairfield. It was incorporated in 1740 and was a quiet, farming community for almost two centuries. The creation of Candlewood Lake provided hydro-electric power for the entire Greater Danbury Area, and began to transform the community from farming into a more business-oriented place. Candlewood Lake also grew into a spectacular summer resort, which has gradually matured into an attractive year-round community of homes. Whether it's a jog down the shore you're looking for, or a boat ride, this lake is popular amongst families, adolescents, and elderly couples, who all want to just get away for a day.

Present-day New Fairfield has outstanding schools, a collection of small businesses and services, and a scenic and watersports-oriented environment with easy access to the shopping centers of nearby Danbury. With four schools, and great teachers, this town prides itself for its dedication to academic achievement. From kindergarten through high school, these schools have received national awards for excellence, and for their advanced athletic programs. A stroll through its center brings you to New Fairfield Public Library, with an array of books, videos, and kids areas. Candlewood Playhouse shows professionally-produced musicals, concerts and plays put on by the school children, year round. Nearby, Squantz Pond State Park is also a place of fun and activities for all ages!

With its fairly close proximity to New York City, Westchester County, and the rest of Fairfield County, it's a wonder that New Fairfield has still kept its small town charm, and is truly a lovely place to live!
