Newtown is a town of surprises. The first impression is a quiet, picturesque country town nestled on sixty square miles of rolling hills. But Newtown is much more than a beautiful place to live. Newtown takes full advantage of its geographic size to offer a vast selection of sporting, recreational, and social functions. Besides open space available for camping and hiking, there are several parks that offer a wide variety of activities. Dickinson Memorial Park, located on Elm Drive, consists of 29 acres of woods and recreational facilities. The Park has five tennis courts, a basketball court, a softball field, two playground areas, a swimming pool with changing quarters, a sand box a kiddy pool, picnicking facilities, complete with grill, ice skating and hockey pond with warming hut and pavilion. Treadwell Memorial Park, located on Philo Curtis Road is a 52 acre Park with a 25 meter swimming pool, four tennis courts, basketball court, two playground areas a pavilion, a small games area, multi-purpose baseball/softball field and a regulation size soccer field. Lake Lillinonah Park, located on the end of Hanover Road next to Lake Lillinonah. This Park offers picnic tables, charcoal grills, a boat launch, and a beautiful scenic view of the lake. While there is no swimming allowed, the park does have a boat launch and offers water skiing and fishing. Newtown also offers two private golf courses. For the horse enthusiast, there is the Fairfield County Hunt Club, several riding stables, year round schools, as well as boarding and training facilities.

The parks have five tennis courts, a basket ball court, a softball field, soccer fields, playground areas, swimming pools, ice skating ponds, hockey pond with warming hut and pavilion, and picnicking facilities, complete with grill. In addition to Dickenson and Treadwell with large acreage, there are some passive recreation parks, Lake Lillinoah with its boat launch and picnic facilities.
