Connecticut Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Noank, Connecticut
Population: 1,830
Located in New London County
Allow me to proudly present...! Noank fulfills one's ideal vision of a sleepy little New England seaside village. Meandering through Noank are small lanes lined with picket fences and classic examples of New England architecture; from gothic Victorians to cozy capes.
Beginning in the late 1800's and up until World War II, Noank was famous for its shipbuilding and fishing industry. Noank (Nowayank) from the Pequot Indian language, originally meant peninsula or neck of land. From its shores, one has a tri-state view of Fisher's Island, NY; Block Island, RI; and Ram Island, CT. It is still home to a small fishing and lobstering fleet.
Today, Noank retains it historic flavor with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. While eating clams and lobsters at a riverside open-air restaurant, you can still watch tall ships and three-masted schooners on their way to the Mystic Seaport. Noank Village boasts its own fire dept., a small food store, excellent restaurants, a cozy ice cream store, playground, and several art galleries. For the sailor in the family, Noank has a boatyard and marina, and for the history buff, there is an Historical Museum.
In addition, there is Bluff Point State Park, Beebe Pond and Haley Farm nature trails; cultural activities such as the Lyman Allen Museum, Pequot Sepos Nature Center, Mystic Seaport and the Garde Theatre are all close by. A bike ride away from Mystic, and Groton, Noank's location is the perfect place for quiet village living!
