North Branford, a town of 27 square miles and 28,000 inhabitants, is blessed with a wide variety of open space and recreational properties owned by the State of Connecticut, the Town of North Branford, the North Branford Land Trust, the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority and others. In total, more than 3,500 acres remains as open and/or undeveloped space.
Many of the protected properties, particularly some of the larger preserves, contain walking trails that are open to the public. In addition, there is the North Branford Trail, a 28-mile walking route that circles the town, passing through woods, fields, and quiet residential neighborhoods.
