Orange is a suburban community with gentle slopes and many open space areas. It is located between two major highways, the Connecticut Turnpike (I-95), and the Wilbur Cross Parkway (Rte. 15). Orange greatly benefits from its proximity to Yale University with its complex of museums, theater, symphony hall, libraries, Yale Bowl, and colleges. It's access to the major highways also allows for a short commute to New Haven, Hartford, Danbury, Stamford, Westport, and New York City. Orange is a stable and sound community from an economic standpoint with its more than 25 diversified manufacturing firms; most are located south of the Boston Post Road (Rte.1). All of the industrial land of Orange, which includes shopping centers, offices, and light industry, is physically separated from the towns residential area. Orange has been successful in maintaining a tranquil residential atmosphere as well as a sound tax base and low property taxes. Orange is well known for its school system which continuously wins awards. Orange has a population of 15,000 and is 17.5 square miles. Orange boasts: 4 Elementary Schools, 1 Regional Junior High School, 1 Regional High School, and one private School. Recreation consists of playgrounds, ball fields, public golf courses, tennis courts, fishing ponds, and several private facilities. Orange also has a widely used community center. Religious facilities include houses of worship representing most faiths and denominations.
