Located six miles north of Hartford, the town of Windsor CT covers a 31.1 square mile area on the west bank of the Connecticut River, located an equal distance from New York City and Boston. The Town is only minutes from Bradley International Airport and is also well served by a main-line railway between Boston and New York. Interstate 91, a major expressway to New York and northern New England, traverses the town.

Windsor was launched in 1633 when settlers sailed from Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts to establish themselves at the confluence of the Farmington and Connecticut rivers. The Native Americans referred to this area as Matianuck.

For approximately 100 years woolen mills and paper mills located on the Farmington River in the Poquonock and Rainbow sections of Windsor provided employment for up to 500 people. Historically, Windsor's economy has been dominated by two pursuits: tobacco farming and brick making.

Currently Windsor's industrial base encompasses a wide range or products and services, including insurance, software development, energy research and development, and manufacturing of nuclear reactors, engine components, and machinery.

There are many things to see and do. Windsor is home to 27 recreational sites totaling 1,155 acres. There are two public access golf courses, 21 tennis courts, and four swimming pools. Apart from that there is the Bissell Bridge Walkway and Boat Launch which begins on the Windsor side of the State Boat Launch. This trail is shared by walkers, joggers, rollerbladers, and bicycle riders.

Historic Windsor Center, with its classic New England Town Green, is located at the confluence of the Connecticut and Farmington Rivers. Pedestrian friendly, it is an inviting living and gathering place where residents and visitors can find dining and entertainment, specialty and convenience shopping, historic sites and museums, family-oriented community events and commercial and municipal services.

Mt. Ascutney, at 3,144 feet, is the tallest mountain close to the Connecticut River and is the tallest monadnock (single mountain not part of a chain) east of the Mississippi River. It has resisted erosion for millions of years thanks to a composition that includes a granite rare to Vermont and an exposed "ring dike" of cooled lava from its origins as a volcano. A seasonal road and several hiking trails lead to the summit.

Land can be bought for around $60,000, and homes start in the high 100's with a three bedroom Cape Cod with 1,300 square feet of living space selling for $189,000.
