Our residential districts are as diverse as our people, from long established historic homes, quiet tree covered neighborhoods, upscale developments on 5 and 10 acre tracts, farm lands, and affordable housing to adult communities and private communities surrounding a Golf course. From these neighborhoods come volunteers and citizens with community pride, that lend their time and energies to youth sports programs for both boys and girls, involvement in our local school's P.T.A., S.A.C. FFA, and "After-School" programs for "At Risk" youths, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Service Organizations such as the Alachua Lions Club Women's Club, and V.F.W, Alachua C.O.C., And Downtown Merchants Association. Our city's Recreational center is a facility that often accommodates organized baseball, Softball, Soccer, Football and Basketball all on the same week-end. The City's Recreational Department maintains 4 public parks, 3 baseball fields, a football field a gymnasium, 2 basketball courts and 2 tennis courts. Currently, plans are under way to build 2 more baseball, softball fields and a soccer field.
