With a population of about 13,000, the City of Atlantic Beach is the northernmost beach and second largest of the three beach communities in Duval County. Primarily residential, Atlantic Beach also has a healthy and diverse commercial district. Although some commercial property is available, most of the city is developed. To better serve residents, Atlantic Beach is undergoing renovation of its underground utilities and has plans to enhance and improve its parks and recreational areas. Residents are excited about a park on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Jacksonville's Beaches
Jacksonville's beach communities, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach, date back to 1884, when Ruby Beach was established. Ruby Beach, now known as Jacksonville Beach, was a sparsely populated community with one general store and a post office. Today, business and tourism thrive at the beaches, and more than 75,000 people live there. All three beach municipalities have their own governments, but are located in Duval County and remain part of its consolidated government.
