Carrabelle, Florida
Population: 1,303 Located in Franklin County
Our picturesque little city is located in the heart of Florida's Forgotten Coast. If you are a visitor, we hope you'll enjoy what we who live here think is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The pristine Florida still abounds along are many, many miles of rivers and shoreline, thousands of acres of wetlands and marshes and ten of thousand acres of forest. Best of all, much of this beautiful landscape is destined to remain as it is. Vast National Forests, State Parks and Wildlife Preserves combine with low density zoning will ensure a unique future unspoiled by high-rises, over development and crowds. Carrabelle is located on a large island, that is know as St. James Island, although the average person would never realize it unless they studied a map of the area. The "Isle of St. James" features bays, rivers, sounds, and an offshore barrier island, known as "Dog Island". Tourism and retirees are a big part of the latest economy for Carrabelle. Old waterfront buildings have been torn down and are giving way to condominiums with docks included in the price. The shrimp boats and fish houses have moved to the mouth of the harbor. One very nice addition is our Riverwalk with a super pavilion which was obtained with grants. This will enable residents and visitors a chance to wet a line or just sit and watch harbor traffic. We are trying to remain a quiet little fishing village while making room for tourist and vacation visitors. We still have our "Smallest Police Station in the World" (it's a phone booth) on US 98 at the corner of CR67. We have a great beach area with shelters and picnic tables just west of the Tillie Miller Bridge. Our beach has no problems with rip tides and plenty of safe waters for the littlest ones to enjoy. Come visit us or come to stay in Carrabelle for the rest of your life. We will put out the welcome mat for you. Courtesy http://www.carrabelle.org/
