De Leon is a community with an interesting history behind it. The State Park, De Leon Springs State Park, located right in the community of DeLeon Springs, allows you to retrace the route taken by Spanish explorer Ponce DeLeon. Here he discovered what he believed to be the legendary Fountain of Youth!

Here, too, you will find ancient cypress and oak trees, native birds, Indian burial grounds, and an old Spanish sugar mill which has been converted into a most unusual restaurant where you may cook delicious pancakes on a griddle built right into your table. A natural spring swimming area, which remains at 72 degrees year round, picnic grounds, fishing, rental canoes and paddle boats are also available.

Plan a visit to the Spring Garden Ranch Training Center in DeLeon Springs, just north of DeLand. An all-weather half-mile track and a one-mile track provide training for more than 400 standard bred horses and their drivers. Watch the horses train from the comfort of a trackside restaurant.

De Leon, like most of Florida, has many retirement communities, or communities for 55+. But don't be deceived, there are plenty of newer sub-divisions being built, and young families are moving into the region. One reason is because of the sheer number of jobs that are available! De Leon, like many of the cities in the region, are perfect commuter towns for nearby Orlando, and even for places like Dayton.

With places like Disney World, Universal and other tourist attractions, there is always something to do in and around De Leon Springs! From Downtown Disney to Pleasure Island, from the hot springs of De Leon to the Intracoastal waterways just a stone's throwaway, activities and fun are easy to be had!
