Gretna, Florida
Population: 1,709 Located in Gadsden County
Gretna is a small town tucked away on the border of Georgia, and also just minutes from Alabama’s border with Florida. This quaint town, located in Gadsden County has maintained an “old town” feeling, mostly because of its very rural roots. Homes, like most of this region are definitely affordable. Many families relocating from the north are pleasantly surprised at what their money can buy, or rent for them. Most single-family homes start in the low $100’s. This purchases a very comfy, three or four bedroom home with two bathrooms and a two car attached garage. For those looking for less hassle, there are condo’s that sell in the mid $70-s-$90’s, and there are always apartment rentals to be had. Farming is still a common activity in this part of Florida, and the climate is ideal for it. So, if you’re in the market for a small-holding, Gretna might just be the place for you! Historic Quincy, just a stone’s throw from Gretna showcases the history for growing tobacco in the 1830s to the 1970s. Quincy has an official "Nationally Registered Historic District" and "Florida Main Street City". As a result, in 1996 it received "All American City Award." Recreation opportunities include family and individual activities. One can enjoy the solitude of walking or biking. Fishing, boating, water skiing, sailing, golfing and playing tennis can be enjoyed year-round. The climate here tends to be milder than other parts of Florida, and occasionally may even experience some snow in February! Fall colors the trees in golds and reds, but it is not long before the trees are sporting new buds of green. Summers are traditionally long, lasting well into October and November. This makes for great outdoor activities. Halloween is especially enjoyable because the kids can go trick or treating without wearing winter cots. At Thanksgiving, many people choose to barbeque their turkeys, and sometimes the barbeque is even used at Christmas! Gretna and the surrounding area has so much to offer its residents, schools are constantly being upgraded as this area is flourishing. Living here feels like being on vacation all year round because of the beauty of the region and the diversity of activities available! Come and check out Gretna — you’ll be glad you did!
