Indian Harbor Beach, Florida Born over forty-five years ago, Indian Harbour Beach is still young as far as cities go. But this little place is vibrant, beautiful, and peaceful. Indian Harbour Beach was developed as a residential community in support of the growing space industry and activities at nearby Kennedy Space Center, from which man first traveled to the moon. Indian Harbour Beach is fairly small as cities go, only two miles square, but over 8,000 citizens call this picturesque place “home”. Of diverse backgrounds and all ages, the residents enjoy an ideal location on the east coast of central Florida, nestled between the beautiful blue Atlantic Ocean and the calm waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Visitors can relax or picnic at the beachfront parks or stroll through the 27-acre Gleason Park surrounding a lake with its many exercise paths, lighted in the early evening by quaint Victorian lights. Sounds of joy and laughter can be heard coming from the year-round heated pool located in the park next to the community center, where classes and activities are held for people of all ages. The million-dollar Algonquin Sports Complex located off Wimico Drive is home to senior baseball, major Little League, softball and soccer fields serving multiple age groups. Other city ball fields are located next to Ocean Breeze School and serve minor Little League teams as well as T-ball participants. Some of the special activities offered through our Department of Community Services include the annual Art, Crafts, Antiques and Collectibles Show held in mid-November, the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Breakfast With The Easter Bunny, and numerous pool parties for families and children held in conjunction with holiday weekends. The City’s premier event is our annual Christmas In The Park celebration, featuring lighting of our beautiful tree on the lake, caroling, children’s shows and a visit by Santa who is transported via fire truck to meet with all the youngsters or young at heart. The Indian River Lagoon separates the mainland from the island. The island is a narrow strip of land that separates the Lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean. (In prehistoric times the Lagoon was connected to the Ocean. Today, the only connection is by way of a handful of inlets, including the manmade Sebastian Inlet at the southern end of Brevard County.) Homes are generally exclusive, and comprise mostly of gated communities, many of them with their own private waters and golf courses. Homes start in the mid $300’s for most of these gated communities. For the best of Floridian living, you cannot beat Indian Harbour Beach, a jewel among the Florida coast towns. If you are looking for an exclusive place to live right on the Atlantic Ocean, then Indian Harbour Beach is the place to be!
