Jacksonville's beaches
Jacksonville's beach communities: Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach date back to 1884, when Ruby Beach was established. Ruby Beach, now known as Jacksonville Beach, was a sparsely populated community with one general store and a post office. Today, business and tourism thrive at the beaches, and more than 75,000 people live there. All three beach municipalities have their own governments, but are located in Duval County and remain part of its consolidated government.
