Largo, Florida"City of Progress" Largo is a community of more than 70,000 residents and continues to grow through voluntary annexation. Over the last 10 years, the City has developed such landmark projects as Largo Central Park and the Largo Cultural Center. Downtown redevelopment is currently underway, and plans are in place to open a new, 93,000 square-foot library. Heritage Village in Largo contains relocated Pioneer buildings and a museum of artifacts. Largo is a city of great family and retiree neighborhoods. There are many recreational centers, golf courses, country clubs and beautiful parks with fishing lakes. The beaches are only a few minutes drive away. The City has many parks, an extraordinary library, a well qualified and equipped Police Department, an ever expanding recreational department, the Largo Cultural Center, which opened in 1996, and can boast of their Firefighters being rated second-best in world competition.
Shopping, Restaurants, Office, Distribution, and Light Manufacturing Centers provide employment opportunities for many. Largo History A settlement was established in 1872 & was named Largo...it was incorporated in 1905. The warm, subtropical climate and sand dunes helped shape Largo into a thriving agricultural community. Referred to as "Citrus City" in its early years, Largo's extensive orange groves provided the livelihood for several of its pioneer families. In 1888 it was established as the railroad's halfway point between Clearwater and St. Petersburg. The City of Largo has experienced remarkable growth in population over the past 30 years.
