The first civilization in Palm Bay was thought to be The Timucuan Indians. In the 19th century immigrants began settling on turkey creek, at this time Palm Bay was known as Tillman. In 1960 Tillman was officially named Palm Bay and soon afterward the first elementary school was constructed in 1966, Palm Bay Elementary School. Palm Bay experienced enormous growth in the 1980's. A municipal complex located on Malabar Road, housing city hall and the police station, was designed and completed in 1990. Palm Bay, which started as a small city and has grown to become a more popular area to live in the past 10 years. New homes and subdivisions are going up everywhere. It is an ideal area for location since it is in-between Vero and Orlando, which means the city has easy access to all of the Theme Parks.
