"Small Town With a Big Heart" Pembroke Park. A community of shaded pathways, tranquil parks, palm-lined streets and park benches. A township where fishing, boating, swimming and social activities beckon. A town that today is thriving and will, through careful management, continue to grow and attract residents, industry and visitors, alike. A bedroom community?Located west of Hallandale Beach, the Town of Pembroke Park comprises 1.6 square miles and is home to approximately 6,000 permanent residents. In the winter months, an influx of French Canadians and other out-of-towners, complete with recreational vehicles, swells the town's population to nearly double that amount. Although there are a number of rental apartment buildings and single family homes, Pembroke Park is perhaps best known for its numerous, attractive and well-maintained mobile and manufactured home parks where the average home costs upwards of $36,000. Many of its residents moved to this true bedroom community to enjoy their retirement in a small town setting neighborhood by big city benefits. Home to good old-fashioned fun? With so many of its residents being either retirees or tourists, it's no wonder that Pembroke Park spends so much effort maintaining its parks and recreation activities. Take McTyre Park, for example, where residents and visitors enjoy such community-oriented American pastimes as baseball, football and even soccer. Where tennis courts, jogging and fitness trails thread their way through a children's playground and where the tantalizing smell of steaks on the grill cause many a mouth to water. The town's community center, which borders the park, plays host to a variety of public functions and serves as a popular gathering place for arts and crafts, club meetings, dances and exercise classes. And there's more?In recent years, Patrick Behan Park opened its gates along the town's eastern-most border. This tranquil setting is ideal for picnic-goers, joggers and sport fishermen. There's even a shuffleboard court! Clark Linear Park features tree-lined paths and scenic views that attract walkers, picnickers, and bike riders, alike. The town also recently purchased additional acreage which has been earmarked for recreational use. The business community?Coca Cola's largest bottling plant south of Atlanta is situated on the northern border of Pembroke Park. Its tell-tale trucks quietly go about their business of caffeinating and quenching the thirst of Florida's infinite number of sun seekers. In addition, to the bottler, the town also houses more than 600 businesses including restaurants, thrift shops, warehouses, manufacturing plants, and industrial complexes. Over the next few years, a 1.4 million square foot office and industrial park is planned for Pembroke Park which will create an estimated 3,000 jobs and significantly boost the town's economy.
