Florida Real Estate & Relocation Guide
Pembroke Pines, Florida
Population: 137,427
Located in Broward County
Pembroke Pines is a 35-square mile city located in southern Broward County, about 15 miles from downtown Fort Lauderdale and about the same distance from downtown Miami. It's mostly west of Hollywood, north of Miramar, and generally south of both Davie and Cooper City. It's a short, but wide city whose western edge touches the Everglades at U.S. 27.
Students continually overflow local schools, and new ones pop up each year to try to accommodate the city's fast-paced growth. Taking matters into their own hands, residents and government cooperated in advocating and then founding some of the Broward County's first charter schools.
Pines' residents and their neighbors have many shopping options. There are strip malls lining most main roads, local centers with big-name anchors, and a full-scale mall conveniently located on west Pines Boulevard. The sprawling Pembroke Lakes Mall features a Burdines, Dillards, Sears, and Penney's.
The local centers do just fine with the likes of Publix, Office Depot, Circuit City, Winn-Dixie, Albertson's, Best Buy, Sedano's, Barnes & Noble, Office Max, Ross, and many other well-known stores. Pembroke Pines has become the car capital of SW Broward, with mega-dealers opening up mega-lots on the last remaining fields from Pines Boulevard north to Sheridan. Restaurants abound, serving nearly every possible taste and cuisine.
