Jonesboro is a historic community with a population of roughly 3,800, and is the county seat for Clayton County Georgia. As such it has great prestige and is rightfully proud of its historic sites. Jonesboro is also the setting for much of the famous novel, "Gone With The Wind", although most of the places are imaginary. The city maintains 3 local parks, which are lovingly maintained. Southern hospitality is the name of the game and it shows even in the way the parks are maintained. With such a rich historic atmosphere and convenience to the Atlanta Metro area it is a wonderful place to live and be a part of. Old Downtown Jonesboro is a section of Jonesboro that stretches from Mill Street to Church Street). Many of these old buildings appear as they did before the Civil War, as the brick exteriors withstood fire while the interiors burned. In the late 1800's this rowdy downtown street housed 13 different saloons! A prominent citizen of the time complained that he had to move out of town to keep his adolescent sons out of the bad environment on Main Street. Now business and government offices alternate with several antique and gift shops along North and South Main Street. With such a rich tradition, and so much great history to recommend this town to others, you would think housing would be unbearably high. However, nothing could be further from the truth, as housing, which comes in many varieties, is also suited to every pocket book. The downtown area is generally more expensive because of the sheer age and history of the homes, but the outlying areas of Jonesboro are reasonable and compare favorably with other parts of Northern Georgia. Jonesboro has also been blessed with a wonderfully mild climate year round, which means outdoor activities like golf are not limited to the warmer summer months. There are also numerous hiking and walking trails in and around Jonesboro. Nearby is the large city of Atlanta, so if the night life of the big city calls your name, it is just a short drive to Atlanta and all the wonders of that great city! Jonesboro is great choice for those who wish to have a slower pace of life to come home to, while still having a realistic commute to work. With such a rich historic atmosphere and convenience to the Atlanta Metro area, Jonesboro is a wonderful place to live and be a part of. Why not come and see how you can be a part of this town's future plans?
