During the Civil War, Kennesaw was the staging ground for the Great Locomotive Chase on April 12, 1862. Kennesaw is conveniently located near Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41 in North Cobb County and Kennesaw offers easy access to those major transportation routes making it a prime location for distribution centers, manufacturing and retail. Adjacent to Town Center at Cobb, a premiere shopping and retail area, is a number of outstanding office and industrial parks. In addition, Georgia's third busiest airport, Cobb County Airport-McCollum Field is minutes away and caters to business travelers using personal or corporate aircraft. For recreation, there are a variety of tennis and golf facilities, as well as natural recreation such as Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, Lake Acworth, Lake Allatoona and the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
