The city of Rincon as it is known now, became so on July 1, 1997. Prior to that time it was simply known as the Town of Rincon founded in 1927.
That is not to say Rincon just sprang up suddenly in 1927. The town was in existence since about 1880. Rincon was built around a railroad depot and telegraph station that connected Georgia and South Carolina via a bridge across the Savannah River. The name of "Rincon" is thought to come from a town in the country of Mexico.
A full-time telegraph station was in place in 1895. Rincon was a depot for the mostly rural farm community that produced lumber, cotton and tobacco. There were several turpentine stills in the surrounding area.
Rincon has almost always been a bedroom community to Savannah, and early residents often rode the train to work in the shipyards and port of Savannah. The first school in Rincon was a two story one-room school house opened around 1900. Rincon was "electrified" with the assistance of the Rural Electrification Assistance program in 1939. In 1954, the population of Rincon was just 650 people and the town was chartered by the State of Georgia.
Today, Rincon, and South Effingham County are one of the fastest growing communities in the state of Georgia. Effingham County has been listed as one of the most desirable places to live in the United States.

It opened in the early 1900's. The residents and businesses of rincon first received electricity starting in 1939. This was made possible with the assistance of the Rural Electrification Assistance program in 1939. In the early 195's, the population of Rincon wa just about 655 people. Finally the town was chartered by the state. Currently, Rincon, and other adjacent cities are among the fastest growing communities in the state of Georgia. Effingham County is presently enjoying the attention of many newcomers and has been listed as one of the most desirable places to live in the United States.
