Makakilo is on what is affectionately called the Leeward side of Oahu Island. For what it's worth it means this side of the island is less windy, but really, Oahu experiences so few weather and climate changes this is a bit of a misnomer! The residents of this hillside community enjoy panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean and some views extend to Diamond Head in the east. Housing here is less expensive than the larger Honolulu, because of the commute time into the main city, but the amenities offered here are world-class.
