pupukea, Hawaii

Population: 4,250
Located in Honolulu County

Pupukea is one of the stretches that makes up Sunset Beach. Sunset is divided into several smaller beaches, and they are famous on the North Shore of Oahu for being in position all year round for a view of the sunset. Some of the world's most dangerous and challenging waves are formed just off this approximately two-mile long beach. This beach is world-renowned for its surfing competitions in winter months. A warning though, do not attempt the surfing unless you are a very experiences surfer! In fact the County warns people to not attempt surfing these waves.

Look out for high prices due to increased shipping costs for most everything. Jobs are scarce, but persistence pays off. There are more jobs in Honolulu-also called "town"-than anywhere else. Most jobs are in the tourist industry, although there are some other industries that hire.

Life along the North Shore is, in some places, very much like it must have been hundreds of years ago. Ceiling fans are more prevalent along this part of the coast than along the more built up South Shore.

Housing is probably the hardest to come by in this area and like the rest of Hawaii tends to be higher than the national American average. Most single-family homes start at $300,000 although smaller condominiums can be found closer to Honolulu beginning at $125,000. The North Shore is probably less expensive than the South Shore, and the chances of finding a larger lot are greater here. There are some new developments right now in the area and the lots are considered large by Hawaiian standards. A new upscale hillside subdivision of Pupukea and Pupukea Sunset Hills offers sweeping and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.

Pupukea may indeed be the paradise that you long to come to at the end of a hard day, and with beautiful beaches, and a tranquil setting it is not hard to see why so many people want to make Hawaii their next place to live and love!
