Located in the heart of the nation’s largest potato producing county, Blackfoot is a small community that offers big city services. Blackfoot fosters an ideal atmosphere to conduct business, raise and educate your family, enjoy the cultural arts and pursue recreational interests.

Economy
Agribusiness plays a big part in the economy of this area, participating in all stages of production. Blackfoot is a major farm service, potato processing and potato-shipping center, with the major crops being wheat and potatoes. Two of the potato processing plants are among Blackfoot’s largest employers, as is the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).

Education
Three public school systems, Blackfoot, Snake River and Firth, serve Blackfoot and the surrounding area. Grades K-12 are available in all three districts, with a number of private alternatives. Community education, adult basic education and GED classes are also available.

Several institutions of higher learning are readily accessible, including Idaho State University in Pocatello, Eastern Idaho Technical College in Idaho Falls and Brigham Young University-Idaho located 50 miles to the north in Rexburg.

Recreation & Points of Interest
Blackfoot is also home to the Eastern Idaho State Fair. Taking place over an eight-day period, beginning the Saturday before Labor Day, the Fair features many stage shows, exhibits, carnival and activities for the whole family.

Commemorating the world of Idaho’s Famous Potatoes, the Potato Expo is located in the old railroad depot on Main Street. Here you will find information about potato history, growth and harvesting, processing, nutrition and potato trivia.

Blackfoot “Pride Days,” held each year during mid-June, offers three days of events for all ages and interests, including sports tournaments, staged entertainment, car shows, food and much more.

Blackfoot Golf Course is an 18-hole course rated among the top five in Idaho. There are also countless opportunities for outdoor recreation, and sports including baseball, softball, soccer, tennis and swimming.

Jensen Grove is the centerpiece of Blackfoot’s parks, and features a picnic shelter and tables, walking path, skateboard park, playground area, disk-golf course and a 55-acre lake for swimming, waterskiing and personal watercraft opportunities.

The Bingham County Historical Museum is located in Blackfoot. A unique, restored 1905 homestead at 190 N. Shilling, it contains a gun collection, Native American artifacts and antique home furnishings.

The Blackfoot Community Players produce several plays each year, as well as musicals, at the historic Nuart Theater. The theater is also home to the River Valley Singers, a community chorale.

Wolverine Canyon, located northeast of Blackfoot, offers hiking, whitewater rafting, camping, and fishing during the summer, and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling during the winter. All just minutes from Blackfoot!
