The City of Eagle was incorporated on November 2, 1971, and had a population of 3,178. The most recent population estimate for Eagle is triple that figure at 9,500. Eagle is located near the Boise River. The name for the town and nearby island came from the earliest settlers in the valley. Bald Eagles were still prevalent in the valley and an Eagle's nest was spotted in a tall cottonwood tree near the Boise River, thus the name "Eagle Island". The atmosphere is pastoral yet progressive in outlook. Eagle is noted for its mild climate, year around recreational opportunities and friendly people. Eagle is a rather quaint farming community nestled in the rolling foothills! It has a mix of farms and ranches, smaller acreages and several nice subdivisions. It also has two very nice golf courses and an abundance of public land for hiking, biking or horseback riding.
