Nampa is an award-winning community known for its progressive economic plan for the future, and relaxed lifestyle. Yet, you can still see echoes of the way life used to be in Nampa's historic downtown square, in the rodeo arena and in the lush fields and vineyards that spread across the valley. Life is unhurried here. Nampa was founded in 1886 and organized as a city in 1891. Nampa is destined to be the 2nd largest city in Idaho, with a current population of over 46,000; a significant change since 1980 when the population was 25,000. Nampa is the largest city in Canyon County. The county has a population of 116,000.
Fitness is a vital component of life for people in Nampa. Residents play everything from horseshoes to tennis in 120 acres of public parks. Facilities include: swimming pools, tennis courts, softball fields, jogging-fitness paths, a rose garden, an amphitheater, volleyball courts, basketball courts, an archery range, horseshoe pits, a BMX bicycle racetrack, barbeque and picnic areas, and plenty of equipment for tiny tykes. The Nampa Recreation Center provides a wide variety of leisure and exercise facilities.
Nampa is located close enough to Boise to take advantage of all the amenities offered there yet far enough away that the small town feel is still maintained. As Nampa grows we a attracting many National chains in the shopping and restaurant arena, as well as three golf courses. Soon we won't find it necessary to venture over to Boise. Housing prices are still affordable out here and recreation is easily accessible. All of this contributes to a way of life that can't be matched in a "big city".
