From a population of 670 in 1960, Buffalo Grove has since grown to a current population of nearly 44,000. Today, Buffalo Grove is one of the finest communities in Illinois with a perfect blend of residential, retail and business. Spread throughout the community are 400 acres of parks featuring playgrounds, sports fields and picnic areas. The business parks and office centers maintain Buffalo Grove's country charm with their beautifully landscaped grounds. Its diversified retail community contains over 20 intimate shopping centers offering a wide variety of stores, shops and eating establishments.

The Village of Buffalo Grove is located 29 miles northwest of the City of Chicago in the northern part of suburban Cook County and southwestern part of Lake County. It is primarily a residential suburb. The housing market tends to price rather high as this is an extremely desirable section of Illinois real estate. Most homes here start in the mid $200,000's. For something a little larger, say 2,500 square feet and up, expect to spend upwards of $300,000. For an executive level home the going rate is around $400,000. Homes retain their value though, and a home purchased here is definitely a good investment.

Buffalo Grove has a hiking/biking trail system consisting of over 43 miles of 8-foot wide multi-use paths and sidewalks. Explore the beautiful tree-lined trails, travel along the three golf courses, use the trail system to shop throughout the community and explore the more than 400 acres of parks and open space throughout the Village.

The Buffalo Grove Park District sponsors a wide variety of programs and maintains nearly 50 parks and play lots covering over 400 acres within the village boundaries. These parks provide recreational and leisure activities for people of all ages including baseball, soccer and football fields, tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts, fishing, biking, in-line skate rink, an aggressive skate park, disc golf and play areas.

The Buffalo Grove School Districts are some of the best in the state. Four districts serve elementary students. The U.S. Department of has awarded the Blue Ribbon Award to the high schools for Excellence in Education

College students have the opportunity to attend highly rated community colleges (William Rainey Harper College and College of Lake County) as well as the many outstanding colleges and universities located in the Chicagoland area.
